Around the World in Eighty Days

Phileas Fogg accepts the £20,000 wager and leaves the Reform Club at 8:45 p.m., promising to return in eighty days.

Reached at 7:20 a.m. after the rail journey from London and the Channel crossing; departed by train at 8:40 a.m.

Reached at 6:35 a.m. by way of the Mont Cenis railway and departed at 7:20 a.m.

Arrived at 4:00 p.m. and boarded the P&O steamship Mongolia one hour later.

The Mongolia reached Suez at 11:00 a.m.; Fogg went ashore only to have his passport visaed.

The Mongolia stopped to take on coal after passing through the Red Sea and Bab-el-Mandeb.

The Mongolia arrived at 4:30 p.m. Passepartout entered the Malabar Hill pagoda without removing his shoes, then caught the 8:00 p.m. train for Calcutta.

The unfinished railway stopped here. Fogg bought the elephant Kiouni for £2,000 and set out at 9:00 a.m. for Allahabad.

Arrived by elephant. At dawn, Passepartout rescued Aouda from the funeral pyre by disguising himself as the dead rajah.

Arrived by Kiouni at about 10:00 a.m. The railway resumed here, and Fogg gave the elephant to the Parsee guide.

The train stopped at 12:30 p.m., where Sir Francis Cromarty left the party.

Reached at 7:00 a.m. Fogg and Passepartout were tried for the Bombay pagoda incident, posted bail, and sailed at noon aboard the Rangoon.

The Rangoon anchored at 4:00 a.m. to take on coal before continuing toward Hong Kong.

The Rangoon arrived at 1:00 p.m. Fix drugged Passepartout, the Carnatic departed early, and Fogg hired the pilot boat Tankadere the next afternoon.

After weathering a typhoon in the Tankadere, Fogg signaled the departing General Grant and transferred at sea without landing in Shanghai.

Fogg and Aouda found Passepartout performing with Batulcar's acrobatic troupe and reunited in time to board the General Grant for San Francisco.

The General Grant entered the Golden Gate in the morning. After a turbulent election meeting, the party boarded the transcontinental train that evening.

Elder William Hitch boarded here and delivered his Mormon history lecture as the train crossed Nevada and Utah.

The railway skirted the Great Salt Lake while Passepartout listened to Elder Hitch's lecture aboard train No. 48.

A brief railway stop at 2:00 p.m. before the party continued east through the Rocky Mountains.

The train charged across the unsafe Medicine Bow bridge at full speed; the bridge collapsed immediately behind it.

After the train attack, Fogg and soldiers rescued Passepartout and two other captives. The onward train had already gone.

Arrived across the frozen prairie on Mudge's wind-powered land sledge, then immediately boarded an eastbound train.

Reached at 4:00 p.m.; Fogg changed trains at once for the final rail sprint to the Atlantic.

The train reached the Hudson at 11:15 p.m., forty-five minutes after the China sailed. The next morning Fogg chartered the Henrietta.

The Henrietta reached Queenstown after its wooden superstructure was burned for fuel. The novel initially calls this the 21st; the finale reveals the civil date was the 20th.

The party rode the waiting mail express from Queenstown and reached Dublin at dawn.

Arrived from Dublin by fast packet at 11:40 a.m. on the civil date later revealed as Friday the 20th; Fix arrested Fogg on the quay, then released him.

Fogg returned home believing he had missed the deadline. The next evening Passepartout discovered they had gained a day by traveling eastward.

Fogg raced by cab to Pall Mall and entered the Reform Club at 8:45 p.m., completing the journey in eighty days and winning the wager.
